About Navarro Point Preserve and Scenic Trail

The Navarro Point Preserve and Scenic Trail, located south of Albion, California, is a 56-acre property owned and managed by the Land Trust.  A 1.5 mile scenic trail weaves through the property, presenting dramatic views of rugged coastal bluffs, the Pacific Ocean, and rolling coastal prairie (click here for trail map).

The Land Trust acquired this property in 1999, with the generous assistance of the California State Coastal Conservancy (SCC). The SCC also funded a management plan and access improvements at the site, including a parking lot and the trail, which were completed and opened in 2005.

What You'll Find at Navarro Point

The first thing you can't help but notice at Navarro Point are the views.  Even from the parking lot, Navarro Point offers stunning views of the bluffs and the ocean.

From the trail, even more stunning views are visible.  The 1.5 loop trail is comprised of mowed trail sections and sections of boardwalk and bridges (to protect sensitive habitats).

The plant life at Navarro Point is remarkably diverse. The coastal prairie is home to over 236 plant species, some rare.  During the spring, flowers and native plants bloom, adding a variety of color to the property.

Visitors are very likely to see raptors soaring overhead, including red-tailed hawks, American kestrel, white-tailed kite, and osprey.

During the annual whale migrations, both north and south, Navarro Point provides an excellent viewpoint for whale watchers.

The Deborah Bove Memorial Bench is located near the southern portion of Navarro Point along the trail. This is a unique wormwood bench and memorial stone honoring the life of Deborah Bove, a former California Coastal Commission employee who dedicated much of her life to coastal access and preservation.  This bench is a favorite spot for whale watching, bird watching and enjoying sunsets for many people.
