In 2009, the Big River Program established the Big River Watershed Coalition, comprised of stakeholders within the 116,000 acre watershed who are committed to working together on watershed restoration and enhancements efforts.
Statement of Purpose
The Big River Watershed Coalition plans, facilitates, participates in, and provides a forum for, watershed enhancement efforts within the Big River watershed. The landowners and other stakeholders represent diverse economic, environmental and public interests.
The Big River Watershed Coalition also works to promote stewardship, sustain a healthy economy, and improve habitat for native fisheries within the watershed.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Big River Watershed Coalition is to protect, restore, and enhance the ecological health and productivity of Big River and its watershed which includes a community-based process, and facilitates communication and collaboration among all interested parties.
Our primary goals are:
-
to promote the restoration and recovery of the Big River and its watershed to a condition capable of supporting a healthy and sustainable anadromous fishery;
-
to support a strong, healthy, and diverse economy in the watershed and local region; and
-
to foster stewardship of the Big River watershed by helping to inform watershed landowners and local citizens.
