Coastal Cleanup Day at Hare Creek

Please join us to celebrate Coastal Cleanup Day at Hare Creek Trail and Beach! We appreciate all the community help that makes this MASSIVE cleanup possible. We will meet in the parking lot for the Community College Coast Center – you’ll find us by the big dumpster.

Please bring buckets, trash bags and any gloves you may have. We will provide nitrile gloves but many people like to put gardening or work gloves over them. Be prepared to get dirty!

In 2021, twenty volunteers worked with Land Trust staff to remove almost 1,400 pounds of trash and recyclables from this area. Due to its proximity to town and the continuing housing crisis, this creek way often ends up being a temporary home to transients and unhoused residents. Camps often become abandoned for a variety of reasons and belongings and trash are left behind. The debris not only affects the beauty of this area but also introduces litter and pollution into the nearby creek and ocean.

Removing as much of the debris as possible before winter rains create run-off is an important and well-timed effort. All who use this area – be they hikers, beach-goers, or those who seek refuge here — greatly appreciate your service in improving this area.
