About MLT

What we do

1

Conservation

Conservation of land for its environmental, scenic, and recreational values.

2

Public Access and Trails

Construction of trails so that people can have a direct connection to beautiful landscapes.

3

Protection & Restoration

Protection and restoration of waterways and forests which provide critical wildlife habitat.

4

Preservation

Preservation of family farms and ranchlands for generations to come.

5

Stewardship

Stewardship of the lands we have protected, in perpetuity.

All of MLT’s projects go through a rigorous planning process and we commit to ongoing stewardship of conserved areas – forever.

Our conservation, restoration, and public access projects are carefully selected based on the degree of public benefit they provide, on the value of the natural habitats they protect, and on the level of threat to the property from potential development.

When MLT takes on a conservation project, it is never “one and done.” Our work focuses on the goal of “Conservation Forever.” We make a commitment to steward the lands we conserve in perpetuity – that means forever! We are a nationally accredited land trust and we take the responsibility that comes with that designation seriously.

Who We Are

Mendocino Land Trust is a nonpolitical, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that works all across Mendocino County and in part of Lake County. Our federal EIN is 94-2362450.

A small group of engaged community members started the Mendocino Land Trust as a kitchen-table organization back in the mid-1970s. The Land Trust has grown into a professional, nationally accredited organization with an amazing network of board members, staff, volunteers, supporters and partners who have contributed to an impressive list of projects and accomplishments. Learn more about our history and see a timeline of accomplishments here.

With your help, we have worked with hundreds of landowners and partners to protect more than 40,000 acres across Mendocino County, opened five preserves to the public and completed over 17 miles of trails for all to enjoy.
