Exploring Geomorphology & the Natural History of Pelican Bluffs
Date: November 14, 2026, 11:00 am
Location: Pelican Bluffs
On Saturday, November 14, we’ll be heading out to Pelican Bluffs Preserve with physical geographer and science writer Rowena Forest to explore its natural history.
If you’ve ever wondered about the white cliffs of Pelican Bluffs, or looked out over our spectacular, rugged coastline and thought about how these staggering cliffs and unique coastal vistas were formed, join us for this fascinating exploration.
Rowena’s lifelong personal and professional focus on California’s dynamic coastal landforms, geomorphology, tectonics, and native ecosystems has propelled her work conducting botanical mapping, habitat delineation, and geographical surveys on the California coast. Through her website, Cal Geographic, Rowena explores California’s past and present physical geography, biogeography, and natural systems, primarily focusing on the landforms, habitats, and conservation of California’s coastal zone.

Rowena grew up in rural West Marin County, on a marine terrace of the Point Reyes Peninsula. Her deep work studying and working in the natural world of California offers a unique perspective of our incredible coastline. We hope you can join us!
This outing is geared for adults, teenagers, and older children. Bring Water and a snack! Hats and layers are recommended—the coast is breezy and cool.
