Volunteer!

The Mendocino Land Trust could not accomplish our conservation and restoration goals without the help of our volunteers.

Volunteers are needed throughout the year to help us maintain the lands we protect. We offer a variety of volunteer events, including beach cleanups, invasive plant removal workdays, and bird surveys, so it’s easy to find an event that fits you!

Whether you have time to volunteer on a regular basis or just an hour to give, there are a variety of activities at different locations that you can choose from. Below is a brief synopsis on several volunteer opportunities.

Big River Stewards
The Big River Estuary is located in the directly south of the town of Mendocino, extending inland from the coast. There are many ways to become a Big River Steward and help to preserve this area. Current opportunities include:

  • Joining our spring and fall Big River Bird Surveys
  • Helping map and eradicate invasive plants on the property
  • Monitoring priority stream crossings to reduce their impact on Big River
  • Interpreting Big River's natural history to visitors
  • Keeping Big River clean and safe by stewarding high use areas

Click on the above link for more information. To become a Big River Steward, contact Matt Coleman at mcoleman@mendocinolandtrust.org or call (707) 962-0470.

Navarro Point Stewards
The Navarro Point Stewards assist in managing the preserve and trail, through removal of invasive plant species and trail maintenance. Navarro Point is located just north of Navarro River, off of Highway 1 on the Mendocino Coast. Click on the above link for more information or contact Tamira Jones at tjones@mendocinolandtrust.org or call (707) 962-0470.

California Coastal Cleanup Day
Held on the third Saturday of every September, this annual event takes place along the entire California coast. The Mendocino Land Trust organizes this countywide beach cleanup event. The California Coastal Cleanup Day is a wonderful way to volunteer with family and friends to clean a local beach and make a lasting impact on our coast. Visit the above link to read about last year's event and to get more information. Contact Jenny Hall at jhall@mendocinolandtrust.org or call (707) 962-0470 to volunteer for this great event.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

The Land Trust is often looking for office volunteers to help with quarterly newsletter mailings, membership and fundraising letters, and event notices. If you are interested in volunteering your time to help in the office, or if you have other volunteer ideas, contact Jenny Hall at jhall@mendocinolandtrust.org or call (707) 964-0470.
