MLT Seeks Digital Intern (Paid Internship!)

The Mendocino Land Trust is seeking a locally-based college student for a paid ten-week summer internship with a focus on social media and video production.


As our offices are closed during the pandemic, this would be a “work-from-home” position. However, the intern should be prepared to make frequent trips to Land Trust properties to document the beautiful lands MLT works to preserve and highlight the public access opportunities MLT makes possible.

Remote Digital Internship with a Focus on Video Production

Job Description

Description: The intern will work as part of Mendocino Land Trust’s Outreach Team on a variety of projects in Mendocino County. These projects will include taking photos and video of MLT properties and projects, preparing social media posts and website content. Interest and experience in digital video production is highly desirable. The intern will also carry out various administrative duties including ensuring that MLT’s information on charitable giving and other websites is current and eye-catching. While it is not the focus of this internship, the intern may be asked to occasionally assist with field work and trail improvement projects which may involve physical labor and working in inclement conditions.  The position will report to the Outreach and Development Coordinator. This is a ten-week summer internship with flexible start and end dates between the months of May and August. The internship comes with a $6,000 award based on 10 weeks of full-time work (40 hours a week). Award will be prorated if fewer than 400 hours are worked.


Ideally, we would like to award this internship to a local community college student. Due to the pandemic, MLT staff are working from home when not working on MLT properties and trails. The intern will spend most of their time working from their home or outdoors with minimal in-person interaction with MLT staff. Intern is responsible for providing their own computer and device that can take photos and video (iPhone or Android phone is sufficient).


Responsibilities Include:

  • Travelling to various sites throughout Mendocino County to take photos and video. 

  • Preparing posts for MLT’s social media channels including Facebook and Instagram.

  • Updating MLT’s website, creating new content in the form of blog/news  posts etc.

  • Organizing and labelling new and existing photos and video on Google Drive

  • Producing or assisting with mapping activities.

  • Assisting with other work, as needed


Note on transportation: Having regular access to a vehicle is a requirement of this internship. MLT will reimburse mileage at the IRS rate.


Note on Housing: Acquiring housing is the responsibility of the intern. As all MLT staff members currently work remotely, having reliable internet access is important.



  • Ability and desire to effectively work remotely with minimal oversight.

  • Ability, understanding, desire and preparedness to occasionally spend time working outside in the field, including hiking in rugged conditions.

  • Passion for natural resource protection and the great outdoors.

  • Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram

  • Familiarity with G-suite (gmail, google drive, google docs, google sheets etc)

  • Video production and editing experience (please let us know the platforms you have worked with and if you would need software provided)

  • Ideal candidates will have above average writing skills and be receptive to editing and feedback.

  • Graphic design skills and experience are a plus as is familiarity with website editing (using a client, no html needed)

  • Travel to office in Ft. Bragg and most coastal sites from the intern's place of housing will be by the intern’s personal transportation. MLT will reimburse mileage at the IRS rate.

  • Intern should have the clothing and personal gear necessary to work outside.

  • Preference may be given to local community college students interested in environmental science, conservation, land management or video production.
