Big River

In 2002, an unprecedented community effort brought together state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, community foundations, as well as over 1,400 private donors in raising $25.6 million to purchase and permanently protect 7,334 acres of the Big River estuary and surrounding forestland.

The Big River Program

Today the Big River Program of the Mendocino Land Trust works in partnership with the California Department of Parks and Recreation to provide for the permanent protection of the estuarine, wetlands, wildlife, and associated later-seral stage forest characteristics of the Big River property, as outlined in the Agreement of Terms and Conditions attached to the conveyance.
